When you need mass media to hide the truth, look no further than the US government
Posted April 03, 2018 06:29:03The US government has launched a massive propaganda campaign against the Islamic State (IS) militant group by publishing the first batch of emails obtained by Wikileaks.
The emails are part of a massive effort to get Americans to think the Islamic group is still alive, the US intelligence agency said.
The documents were obtained by a WikiLeaks-affiliated group called the “Collateral Murder” team and published on Tuesday.
The group, which works with the anti-secrecy group Wikileaks, was previously known as the “Disinformation Team”.
The emails show the US military and intelligence agencies were working on a plan to make IS fighters think that the United States was still a country fighting to destroy the group.
“A plan was developed that would create the perception of an ongoing US-led operation to destroy ISIL,” an email from US Army Lt Col Bruce Riedel, an adviser to the Pentagon on the campaign, said in March.
The plan was dubbed Operation Resolve and was to be “delivered via mass media”.US intelligence officials told NBC News that the plan was to get the public to believe that the Islamic state was still active in Iraq, Syria and Libya.IS, which has captured large parts of Iraq and Syria, has been declared a global terrorist group by the US.IS fighters have killed more than 4,700 people in the Middle East and Africa in just two years.IS has also been accused of using US-supplied weapons in Iraq and other countries, such as the Philippines.
The US has conducted air strikes in Syria and is in the process of launching air raids against IS.
