When will the American people wake up?
Posted February 15, 2019 05:24:24If you’ve ever wondered how long it will take to get your news out before your friends and family have seen it, it turns out there’s a decent chance you’ve never had to do so.
At least not before the day before, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center.
As the United States gears up for an increasingly polarizing election, there is a strong chance you may have missed it.
According to the report, nearly one in five Americans have never heard of the American election system, and a significant number of them haven’t even heard of it at all.
“There’s not a lot of awareness out there,” said David Campbell, professor of communications at Georgetown University and the study’s author.
In fact, while some Americans don’t know about the U.S. presidential election, just 5% have heard of its results, compared to nearly 50% of the population as a whole.
Campbell said this could be due to a combination of the difficulty of learning about it and the fact that it’s been held off until this close to the election.
“People are focused on the results of the election and they’re focused on how well Donald Trump is doing,” he said.
Campus said that as people learn more about the election process, they may not even realize it’s not their job to help decide who wins or loses.
“They might not realize they have no say in the election at all, and they may be reluctant to help out, Campbell said.”
When the system is rigged, the election is rigged.
And we need to have an election system that is fair and impartial.
“The report comes as the Trump administration continues to push through legislation to repeal the Voting Rights Act, which has been in place since the 1965 Voting Rights Acts were passed.
In a statement, President Trump said he “fully supports the passage of the Fairness Act to restore voter protections, including voting rights.”
The Fairness bill was supported by Republicans, who argued it would prevent a potential Trump presidency from taking root.”
In recent weeks, Trump has made efforts to restrict voting rights, but he has also called for a “major, major restoration” of voting rights in the United State.”
This is not an election year, and it is imperative that the VRE is fully restored.”
